What better way to give your clubs a little love than with a swanky head cover. If you’re in the market to crank up your bag a notch or two – I have just the ticket. And I am not talking about a new driver.
I spoke with president and owner of AB Golf Designs, Daniel Langer, to find out about one of the hippest golf head covers company to hit the golf industry in a long time.
Give us a little background on the company.
Me and my friend and partner, Chip Burley, bought ButtHead Covers a year ago. We loved the product and thought that the name ButtHead was kind of un-politically correct, especially when you are trying to break into private clubs. Most of the responses said that the name violated the golf shops rules. So, we changed the name to AB (Anything Butt) Designs. We then expanded the product line into categories to reach all customers – anything from the traditionalist to personalities, patriotic to ladies, etc. I guess you could say that we are a start-up company even though it was a purchase.
Which head covers are your big sellers?
After we introduced the newest boxing head covers at this past PGA Merchandise show we haven’t been able to keep them in stock. The most popular ones are the Union Jack (England), Australia and, of course, the U.S.A. Luckily, we are coming out with more countries, such as Ireland, Italy, Japan and Canada, which will be available in mid to late June.
Is there anything new and exciting that you have for female golfers?
We just introduced our newest all-female line, called the Bling line. We partnered with the Maurer Foundation, based in New York City, in the fight for breast cancer. It is called the Swing Bling pink head cover that gives proceeds to the Maurer Foundation.
Which players are sporting your gear?
We don’t officially have any players signed with us, but a ton of LPGA players are sporting the covers in their bags – Christina Kim, Yani Tseng, Paige Mackenzie and Anna Grzebien.
Are there more new and exciting brands that we should be looking forward to?
Soon we will be introducing a new line of head covers for all those traditionalists out there. It will be called the “Throw Back” line with two styles: palm or castle. It is going to be something that the baby boomers will be flocking to.
What separates you from other head cover brands?
We are the only brand that has more than 25 color combinations and all the colors are completely green and made out of recycled plastic bottles. And best of all, our price points are better than any of our competitors.
We will be entering into the collegiate market soon. We have partnered with two colleges that we have developed great relationships with and come up with some creative designs.
