RUMFORD, R.I. – Todd White had quite a run going. The mid-amateur from Moore, S.C., came into this year’s 49th Northeast Amateur fresh off a victory at the South Carolina Match Play Championship.
He put on quite a show at the Members Club at Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach, S.C., June 16-20. After advancing to the 32-player match play field, White won five straight matches. Most impressive was the fact that in those matches he played 78 holes without making a bogey.
The 1990 Northeast Amateur champion kept things going in Wednesday’s opening round of this year’s championship when he birdied the first hole. But his bogey-less streak came to an end with he made 5 on the 505-yard, par-4, second hole.
White went on to shoot a 1-over 70 in a round that included four bogeys and a trio of birdies.
