WSG inks deal to run Australian PGA Championship

MELBOURNE, Australia – The PGA of Australia has retained World Sport Group to manage its season-ending Australian PGA Championship, Australia’s oldest professional golf tournament.

The five-year agreement calls for WSG, a Singapore-based sports marketing company, to deliver sponsorship and television coverage for the event that is co-sanctioned by the Australasia and OneAsia tours.

This year, the Australian PGA Championship (Dec. 9-12) offers a purse of AUD $1.5 million and will be played at the Hyatt Regency Coolum on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, its home for nearly a decade.

Previous winners include Seve Ballesteros, Geoff Ogilvy, Peter Senior and four-time champion Robert Allenby.

In addition to golf tournaments, WSG is involved in soccer and cricket events across the Asia-Pacific region. WSG’s golf portfolio includes the Barclays Singapore Open (US $5 million), Hero Honda Indian Open (US $1.25 million) and Australian Open (AUD $1.5 million).
