Mariko Tumangan has verbally committed to Stanford. Tumangan, of San Jose, Calif., also considered UCLA, Oregon, South Carolina and Washington.
Tumangan recently finished runner-up at the California Junior Girls State Championship. She also posted a course-record 62 at the Rancho Canada East Course in Carmel, Calif., this past fall at the Central Coast Section Girls Golf Championship, and qualified for the 2009 U.S. Women’s Open.
Tumangan said she fell in love with the facilities and the beauty of the Stanford campus, and that she has a good connection with coach Caroline O’Connor. She calls the school “a golfer’s dream come true.”
“It’s been my dream school ever since I was a baby,” Tumangan said.
