Fantasy Aces: RBC Canadian Open

WEEK 26, MATCH 1: Jim McCabe ($6,725,003; 11-12-2) vs. Sean Martin ($6,587,852; 12-12-1)

JIM McCABE

RBC Canadian Open

Site: Toronto

Courses: St. George’s Golf and Country Club (7,046 yards, par 70)

Purse: $5.1 million

Winner’s share: $918,000

Best bet: Camilo Villegas. It’s sometimes safer to stay away from a player coming off of the major championship hoopla, but let’s make an exception with Villegas. Call it a hunch time.

Ace up my sleeve: Brandt Snedeker. A few players have broken through this year with their first wins – Justin Rose, Bubba Watson, Bill Haas – and Snedker fits the mold perfectly. Good player. Gets in contention. Due to break through.

SEAN MARTIN

Best bet: Retief Goosen. A playoff loser at this event last year, Goosen is poised for more success this year. Coming off a sixth-place finish at the British Open.

Ace up my sleeve: John Mallinger. After an abysmal start to season (one made cut in 14 starts), Mallinger has finished in the top 25 in four of his past six starts.

WEEK 26, MATCH 2: Jeff Babineau ($4,624,539; 10-11-4) vs. Lance Ringler ($4,371,843; 13-11-1)

JEFF BABINEAU

Best bet: Matt Kuchar. Don’t look now, but the Kooch is on track to make his first Ryder Cup team and can get a little closer with a good week north of the border.

Ace up my sleeve: Trevor Immelman. Showed some good form by finishing strong at St. Andrews and likely inspired by seeing another South African join him in the major club.

LANCE RINGLER

Best bet: Matt Kuchar. He leads the PGA Tour in the all-around ranking and, at No. 5, is the highest-ranked player in the field this week according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. Kuchar has quietly had a very good year, placing in the top 30 in the first three majors of the year and recording 11 top 25s and six top 10s in 17 starts.

Ace up my sleeve: Aaron Goldberg. He leads the Canadian Tour Order of Merit and is coming off a victory last week at the Canadian Tour Players Cup. Sure the stage is bigger, but look for the former San Diego State standout to play on the weekend this week on the PGA Tour.
