Kim wins Scratch Players Am by four shots

Scratch Players Amateur (Final Rd.)

Woo-hyun Kim doubled his lead Thursday at the Scratch Players Amateur to finish with a commanding four-shot win. Kim, of Il San, Korea, finished the week at 9-under 279 at Canterwood Golf and Country Club in Gig Harbour, Wash.

Kim, who is a member of the Korean National team, burst out of the gates in Round 1 with a bogey-free 7-under 65. He backed it up with a 69 in Round 2 before struggling to a 75 in Round 3, his only score above par for the week.

Kim’s lead had dwindled to two shots entering the final round, but a 2-under 70, which included two birdies in his final three holes, sealed the win for Kim. Romain Wattel, of Bussey St. Georges, France, finished second at 5-under 283. Wattel won the Mouchy Cup and the Scottish Open Amateur already in 2010.

Taiwan’s Cheng-Tsung Pan finished third after managing to break 70 just once in four rounds. Pan, who co-medaled at the Western Amateur and will play for Washington in the fall of 2011, was at 4-under 284 for the week.

Cameron Peck, a sophomore at Texas A&M, finished T-6 at even-par 288 while Oklahoma State senior Kevin Tway was T-11 at 3 over.
