Matthew Mabrey, of Little Rock, Ark., has given a verbal commitment to play golf for Tulsa in the fall of 2011. Mabrey is No. 65 in Golfweek’s Junior Rankings for the class of 2011.

Before committing to Tulsa, Mabrey also took unofficial visits to Georgia, Texas, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and Akron.

“Honestly I like the campus, it’s a pretty small school, it’s a comfortable place, they have great facilities to practice in, they get to play Southern Hills once a week,” Mabrey said of all the reasons he chose Tulsa.

He also is looking forward to working with coaches Bill Brogden and Andy Crabtree.

“The coaches are going to make me a better player – make me the player I want to become,” he added.

Mabrey recently made the cut at the U.S. Junior Amateur before falling in the first round of match play. He has one career AJGA victory, and has played in two AJGA invitationals so far this year.
