Chad Merzbacher, of Dublin, Ohio, has given a verbal commitment to Tennessee. Merzbacher is No. 35 in Golfweek’s rankings for the class of 2012.

Merzbacher also took unofficial visits to LSU, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Kent State, South Carolina and UCF before committing to Tennessee.

“They have a good program over there, they have a really nice practice facility, the weather is good, the coaches are great,” Merzbacher said of Tennessee. “It was a good fit for me.”

Merzbacher also is looking forward to working with head coach Jim Kelson and assistant coach Casey VanDamme.

“(Coach Kelson is) very honest and he has a lot of integrity,” Merzbacher said. “(Coach VanDamme) has a lot of experience with golf – he worked with Jim McLean for nine years, worked with really good players.”

Merzbacher made the cut at the Western Junior and the AJGA Rolex Tournament of Champions this summer, and recorded top-10 finishes at the Hudson Junior and the AJGA’s Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands.
