RANDBURG, South Africa – Tyrone Ferreira reached the turn Saturday at the 2010 SAA Pro-Am Invitational three shots back from the co-leaders, but four birdies on the back nine – including the last two holes – gave him a 67 for the day and one-shot victory.

Ferreira began the third and final round three strokes behind overnight leader Brandon Pieters, who shot 71 Saturday. Ferreira’s birdies on holes Nos. 17-18 sealed his second win on tour. Last week’s champion Jaco van Zyl (70) needed a birdie on the par-5 18th to force a playoff but failed to get up-and-down out of the bunker and settled for par. Zyl shared second place with Pieters.
It was a hard-earned victory for Ferreira, especially since he broke his ankle following the Vodacom Championships earlier in the year and was forced to take a lengthy break to get back into playing condition.
Ferreira was pleased that his game came together this week, which allowed him to confidently fire at targets, and make putts in pressure situations.
“I’ve been working really hard with my coach, and this week I could pull it all together,” he said. “Today I didn’t hit the ball all that great, but I putted really well.”
Ferreira ended amateur status in 2007 as the top player in South Africa and was awarded in 2008 with his first win, at the Zambia Open.
This year, Ferreira’s younger brother Steven joined him on tour. Steven was tied with Tyrone going into the final round, but a 74 pushed him back to finish T-16.
Ferreira and the tour head to Stellenbosch this week for the fifth Vodacom Business Origins of Golf event of the year.
