Colorado wins Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic

Colorado won its first tournament in nearly two years Tuesday, beating California by two shots to capture the season-opening Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.

The Buffaloes shot a three-round total of 1-over 865 to edge California at Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo. Oregon finished third at 872.

Idaho’s Kayla Mortellaro earned medalist honors at 9-under 207, two shots ahead of Colorado’s Emily Talley. Cal’s Pia Halbig was third at 211, four shots behind.

Colorado, which finished the 2009-10 season No. 66 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, hadn’t won a tournament since the Challenge at Wolfdancer in Nov. 2008.
