N.C. State won its second tournament of this young season, closing with a 8-under 283 Tuesday to win the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
The Wolfpack, No. 18 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, shot a three-round total of 8-under 844, four shots ahead of Duke at Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C. Wake Forest was third at 3-over 855.
Freshman Albin Choi, who won this summer’s Canadian Amateur, captured his first college title in only his third career start. Choi, No. 130 in Golfweek’s rankings, won medalist honors at 6-under 207, edging Wake Forest’s Lee Bedford by a shot. Wake Forest’s Evan Beck and Duke’s Brinson Paolini tied for third, three shots back.
This is the second victory of the fall for N.C. State, which also won The Invitational at Kiawah in mid-September. The Wolfpack also finished second at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. Prior to this season, N.C. State hadn’t won a team title since Sept. 2007.
