Dylan Healey, the No. 2-ranked player in the state of Tennessee and No. 42 in the 2012 class, has given a verbal commitment to play at New Mexico.
Healey made visits to New Mexico, Vanderbilt, UNLV and Arizona, and was considering Oregon. Healey narrowed his list to New Mexico and Arizona before deciding on the Lobos.
“I really liked the coaching staff and the facilities at New Mexico, plus I grew up playing with past Lobo players and playing their home course almost every day,” said Healey, who was born in Albuquerque, but moved to Tennessee prior to his eighth-grade season. “I liked the coaching staff at every campus we visited, and that’s the most difficult part of making the decision, letting the coaches where you’re not going know your decision. I was humbled by the whole process.”
Healey, who attends the Brentwood Academy in Franklin, Tenn., won the 2009 Tennessee High School State Championship and recently finished second at the Golfweek Junior Invitational.
“I came into this event with no pressure,” Healey said, “and I think that probably helped me play so well.”
