GUADALAJARA, Mexcio – Beatriz Recari’s 2010 turnaround is astounding. Before her victory at the CVS/pharmacy LPGA Challenge, she had missed 10 cuts in 14 events.
“Halfway through the season, I felt really lost,” Recari said.
Her classic rookie mistake? Trying to change things simply because she was on the next level. Recari had a quiet moment with herself after the P&G NW Arkansas Championship, reflecting on what got her to the LPGA in the first place. She had missed five consecutive cuts, and knew something needed to change.
Recari simplified her preparation, concentrating less on technique and more on building upon what she’s already good at. Her family came from Spain to her South Florida home for a visit. She found comfort in her parents’ presence and worked hard on her game and her fitness in that three-week stretch. A calm Recari emerged in California, where she won with four consecutive rounds under par.
Recari followed her CVS victory with a satisfying tie for ninth in Malaysia and qualified for this week’s Lorena Ochoa Invitational. The player whom fans voted into the Mojo 6 turned down a chance to pose for Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Edition earlier this year because it conflicted with the British Open. Her golf comes first, she told Golfweek.
This rookie is more than a pretty face.
