Alexander Chiarella of Pukalani, Hawaii, has given a verbal commitment to play golf at the University of San Diego. Chiarella was also considering Santa Clara and Oregon State.

“I really enjoy the location of the school, climate of the area and the academic strength of USD. Also, I feel a connection to Coach Tim Mickelson and the golf team with their determination and sense of humor,” Chiarella said. “Through my friendship with Alex Ching, I have seen how Coach Tim can develop a young player’s golf game. I look to take my game to the next level and improve my skills on and off the golf course.”

Chiarella, who attends Seabury Hall, a private school in Makawao, was named the 2010 Hawaii State Junior Golf Association Player of the Year. He also tied for 10th at the Hawaii State Open and tied for 11th at Junior Americas Cup.
