Trey Aguirre, of Navarre, Fla., has given a verbal commitment to Western Kentucky. Aguirre also made an unofficial visit to Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss.
The 17-year-old is Aguirre was hooked on the school after making a campus visit and talking with head coach Phillip Hatchett.
“I had been looking, done my research on schools,” Aguirre said. “He was really the kind of coach I was looking for because of all his experience. Seemed like a great guy in all the e-mails I had had back and forth with him. Once I met him in person it was even better.”
Aguirre was very satisfied with the Western Kentucky campus, and got to meet many of his future teammates during his visit.
“Coach Hatchett took us to a local golf course and they were having a local qualifying that day, so I got to stand on the first tee and meet a bunch of the guys,” he said.
Aguirre was the second alternate out of the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier in Saucier, Miss., last summer, and earned top-5 finishes at district tournament two of the last three years to lead his high school golf team to regional play.
