Ryo Ishikawa’s disappointment with his playoff loss at the Japan Tour’s Totoumi Hamamatsu Open came with an upside: a spot in the U.S. Open.
The top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking at week’s end earned exemptions into the Open, to be held June 16-19 at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. Ishikawa moved from 53rd to 49th.
Gary Woodland and Aaron Baddeley, ranked 49th and 50th, respectively, fell out of the top 50. Woodland is not yet exempt for the Open; Baddeley qualified by being in the top 10 on the PGA Tour money list, as did Colonial winner David Toms and Rory Sabbatini.
Matteo Manassero, and Peter Hanson also got in via the top 50 ranking. Anders Hansen qualified via his top-5 ranking on the European Tour money list.
The top 50 in the OWGR on June 13 also will be exempt into the U.S. Open.
