Start of Senior PGA delayed by heavy rain

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following an overnight storm that included winds of 60 mph and dropped 1.5 inches of rain on an already-soggy Valhalla Golf Club, Thursday’s start to the 72nd Senior PGA Championship has been delayed 90 minutes.

The first starting times have been moved back, from 7:30 a.m. to 9, and the final groups will begin play at 4:10 p.m. Barring additional delays, it’ll be close regarding the prospect of finishing the first round on schedule; sunset is scheduled for 8:56 p.m.

The weather forecast calls for a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms Thursday, but the expected weather for the next three days improves noticeably, with only a 10 percent of rain Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Because of the saturated golf course, the PGA of America will play under lift, clean and place conditions in Round 1.
