Sarah Schemlzel, No. 18 in Golfweek’s rankings for the class of 2012, is in the process of making unofficial visits. Schmelzel has visited Oklahoma, Oregon and South Carolina and also is considering Missouri, Kansas, Ohio State and Oklahoma State.
I’m pretty deep in the process, but I’m not sure yet,” she said. “It’s in between probably five schools right now, and then a lot of schools came out (for the U.S. Girls’ Junior) so all of them come into play too, so just still trying to figure out where I want to go, what fits me the best.”
Schmelzel, of Phoenix, Ariz., said many of the schools on her list are in the Midwest because she has played a lot of touraments in that area of the country, and is looking for something different from the Southwest.
“I kind of just want to get away from home and experience something new,” she said. “I want to deal with the weather challenges because taht will just make me a better player int he future.”
Schmelzel advanced to the second round of match play at the U.S. Girls’ Junior before falling to Ariya Jutanugarn. She has seven career top-10 finishes in AJGA events, and
