DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Lexi Thompson’s decision to navigate the LPGA’s new three-stage qualifying system already seems to be paying off.
Thompson, whose petition for 2012 LPGA membership was accepted by the LPGA earlier this month, shot a pair of 66s to grab a share of second place during the first stage of LPGA Q-School at LPGA International. The four-round event will conclude Friday.
Stephanie Kono, who recently completed her senior season at UCLA, has the lead at 14-under 130.
The top finishers advance to the second round of Q-School on Sept. 27-30 in Venice, Fla.
