Perez (No. 94, 2012) commits to Southern Miss

Michael Perez has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at Southern Mississippi. Perez, who is from Weston, Fla., is ranked No. 94 in the 2012 class.

Perez, who will be a senior at American Heritage School in Plantation, made unofficial visits to Kennesaw State, North Florida, Campbell and Barry.

“Southern Miss was my first offer,” Perez said. “I accepted because I immediately felt a connection to Coach (Jerry) Weeks and Coach (Jim) Garren. I feel they will help me take my game to the next level. Academically and athletically, Southern Miss was the best choice for me. I really loved the campus and could feel the school pride throughout the community. I look forward to being a Golden Eagle.”

This summer, Perez placed second at the AJGA Florida Open, finished eighth in the Florida Boys Junior Championship and tied for 44th in the Florida State Amateur.
