Believe it or not, one of the best fields of the year will be in Scotland next week at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Played over three courses – the Old Course, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie – the event is the biggest pro-am on the European Tour, and this year will have a smattering of Americans in the 212-player field.
Dustin Johnson, J.J. Henry and Johnson Wagner will join a great field that includes Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy, Charl Schwartzel, Graeme McDowell, Ernie Els, Darren Clarke and Louis Oosthuizen.
“A couple guys from New York asked J.J. Henry and myself to go with them, and I’ve never been over to play over there so I was chomping at the bit,” Wagner said of making the trip to Scotland for the first time. He has tried to qualify for the Open Championship, but never made it. “I’ve never played that kind of golf, and I think I could be good at it.”
