Smotherman (N/R, 2012) commits to SMU

Austin Smotherman of Loomis, Calif., has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at SMU under former Augusta State head coach Josh Gregory.

Smotherman, the winner of the California Junior Amateur and the 2011 Sacramento City Amateur, made unofficial visits to San Diego, UC Davis and Saint Mary’s.

Unranked in the Class of 2012 for a lack of events played, Smotherman has played in three U.S. Juniors, losing in the Round of 32 this year to medalist Beau Hossler.

“I know SMU is the place for me with the high level of coaching by Coach Gregory and Coach (Jason) Enloe,” Smotherman said. “I will be able to grow as a player and achieve my goals along with our team’s goals, while receiving a top education at their business school.”
