Flood damage delays Champions' return to En-Joie

The Champions Tour has announced that the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open will be moved back nearly two months on the tour’s competition schedule. The tournament will be played Aug. 13-19 at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, N.Y., but generally is contested the last week of June.

The date change will be in effect for only one year, and is a result of major flood damage sustained from Tropical Storm Lee that caused the nearby Susquehanna River to overflow at record levels last month and almost completely cover the course. Tournament officials agreed moving the tournament to a later date will allow the En-Joie Golf Club more time to recover and return to championship form.

En-Joie has hosted the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open five times, and was the site of the PGA Tour’s B.C. Open from 1971-2005.

“The Endicott community shows tremendous support for the Champions Tour each year during Dick’s Sporting Goods Open week,” said Champions Tour President Mike Stevens. “We want to take every step possible to ensure we provide them a first-class event and give our players ideal playing conditions. This move for next year will allow us to do that.”

The complete Champions Tour schedule for the 2012 season is expected to be finalized later this year.
