COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind by 16 strokes after the first round, the Kent State men battled back to win the Robert Keppler Intercollegiate on Sunday, clearing SMU by a stroke.
Playing at the tough par-71 Scarlet Course – Ohio State University’s home course – the Golden Flashes won the tournament at 46 over. It was their fourth win of the season and second consecutive victory – they won the Irish Creek Collegiate on April 1.
Indiana – who had a tournament-low 292 in the first round – finished third at 51 over after rounds of 307-304 to finish the tournament.
Northwestern was fourth, while host Ohio State and Xavier tied for fifth.
SMU’s Max Buckley held onto his overnight lead to take medalist honors at 7 over, holding off Ohio’s Paul Grauer and Xavier’s Sebastian MacLean by a shot.
Kent State’s Kevin Miller was solo fourth at 9 over, while Northwestern’s Eric Chun finished fifth at 10 over.
