After a year off, the AJGA returned to the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pa., at the Links Course – a challenging par-70 with small, tricky greens – for the Preseason Junior at Nemacolin. The tournament concluded on June 3 with Ryan Davis and Ali Nageotte winning the Boys and Girls divisions, respectively.
Davis, of Berkeley Heights, N.J., finished at 4-over 144 to win the Boys 12-18 division. His first-round 1-under 69 was the only below-par round in the tournament. Heading into the final round, Davis had a one-shot lead and a five-shot cushion on third place, but it was a struggle getting it to the clubhouse as he finished 3 over in his last four holes to post a round of 5-over 75.
Even with the late-round struggles, Davis managed to lead the tournament wire-to-wire and the first round 69 was just enough to get by Dalton Miller of Dublin, Ohio, by one shot.
Nageotte of Westlake, Ohio, shot 15-over 155, to beat out Grace Howie of Ottawa, Ontario, by one stroke to win the Girls 12-18 division. Nageotte shot 80 in the first round, but fought back on Day 2 to shoot a 75.
