Matthew NeSmith separated himself from the field, shooting a second-round, 3-under 67 to take a one-shot lead at the Rolex Tournament of Champions Wednesday at the Capital City Club in Alpharetta, Ga.
NeSmith, who was part of a five-way tie for the lead after the first round, is at 5 under for the tournament. He began his round with birdies at Nos. 1 and 2, and birdied four of his first seven holes.
Vincent Marino is alone in second at 4 under while Lee McCoy is third at 3 under.
On the girls side, first-round leaders Karen Chung and Marijosse Navarro fell back in the second round, paving the way for Jaye Marie Green to assume the lead after a 2-under 68.
Green, who totaled four birdies on the day, is at 2 under for the tournament and is followed by Casey Danielson and Chung, who are T-2 at 1 under. Ariya Jutanugarn, Esther Lee and Yu Liu are T-3 at even par while Navarro is part of a three-way tie for seventh at 2 over.
