Amateur champion’s mixed bag
Steven Fox made several clutch putts late to top Michael Weaver for the U.S. Amateur title Aug. 19 at Cherry Hills Country Club.
Fox made the key putts with a Rife 2-Bar Hybrid putter. His other clubs included: TaylorMade RBZ Tour driver (10.5 degree), TaylorMade R11 3-wood (15.5 degree), TaylorMade Rescue hybrid (21 degree), TaylorMade MC irons (4-6) and MB irons (7-PW) and Titleist Vokey Design SM4 wedges (52, 56 and 60 degree). He played a TaylorMade Penta TP5 ball.
Fox used a Matrix Ozik HD7 shaft in his driver, a Mitsubishi Kai’li shaft in his 3-wood, a Matrix Ozik Altus Hybrid shaft in his Rescue and KBS Tour C-Taper shafts in his irons.
Meanwhile, Weaver relied on all Titleist clubs at Cherry Hills. Weaver’s bag: 910D3 driver (9.5 degree), 910Fd 3-wood (15 degree), 910H hybrid (19 degree), 712 CB Forged irons (4-PW), Vokey Design SM4 wedges (52, 56 and 60 degree), Scotty Cameron Newport T10 Select putter. He played a Titleist Pro V1x ball.
Weaver used Graphite Design Tour AD shafts in his driver and 3-wood, along with a Fujikura Speeder in his hybrid. His irons had True Temper Project X shafts.

Heavier driver shaft for Garcia
Sergio Garcia does things differently. While most PGA Tour golfers are going lighter with their driver shafts (Tiger Woods, for example, uses a 70-gram Graphite Design Tour AD driver shaft), Garcia is going heavier with a 100-gram Mitsubishi Diamana 103 driver shaft.
In winning the Wyndham Championship, the Spaniard played Diamana 103 shafts in his TaylorMade R11S driver (9 degree) and Burner SuperFast 2.0 5-wood (18 degree). In his RBZ 3-wood (15 degree), Garcia went much lighter with a Mitsubishi ’ahina 70.
The rest of Garcia’s all-TaylorMade bag: Tour Preferred MB irons (3-PW), ATV wedges (50 and 58 degree) and Ghost Tour MA-81 putter. He played a TaylorMade Penta TP5 ball.

Adams’ driver adjustment
Blake Adams came to the TaylorMade tour van looking for more carry distance and more overall yardage with his RBZ Tour driver (11 degree). Adams had been using a setting that was completely open, producing his preferred left-to-right ball flight.
Moving the FCT (Flight Control Technology) setting one position toward standard did the trick. According to TaylorMade, a slight fade reduction allowed Adams to pick up an additional 8 to 10 yards in carry distance.
