Toy Box notes: Shin’s bag mostly Mizuno

Jiyai Shin won the Ricoh Women’s British Open by nine strokes for her second consecutive LPGA victory.

In both triumphs, Shin carried 13 Mizuno clubs in her bag. The only non-Mizuno club was an Odyssey White XG 5 putter.

Shin used Graphite Design’s Tour AD shafts in all four of her metalwoods – Tour AD DJ-5 in her driver, 3-wood and 5-wood, plus Tour AD DI-6 in her 7-wood.

Shin’s bag: MP Craft driver (9 degree), MP Metal Ti 3-, 5- and 7-woods (15, 18 and 21 degrees), MP CLK hybrid (23 degree), MP-53 irons (6-PW), MPT-11 wedges (50, 54 and 58 degree) and Odyssey White Hot XG 5 putter. She played a Titleist Pro V1 ball. Her grips were Golf Pride New Decade MultiCompound.

Callaway prototypes on LPGA: Callaway’s X Utility Prototype iron is making an impact on the LPGA as well as the PGA Tour.

At the Women’s British, Callaway constructed X Utility clubs for Samantha Richdale, Mindy Kim, Lexi Thompson, Momoko Ueda, Ryan O’Toole, Vicki Hurst and Jin Young Pak.

Odyssey used by Euro Tour winner: Odyssey scored another victory in Europe as Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano won the BMW Italian Open with an Odyssey White Hot XG 9. Fernandez-Castano averaged 25.3 putts per round.

Three wins for FootJoy shoes: Jiyai Shin stormed to victory in her Women’s DryJoys MyJoys. winner Luke Guthrie wore FJ Icon shoes. Champions Tour champion Willie Wood wore FJ Sport shoes.

Short shots: Titleist golf ball usage last week: 100 of 144 players in the Women’s British (LPGA), 103 of 156 in the Italian Open (PGA European Tour), 56 of 81 players in the Pacific Links Hawaii Championship (Champions Tour). . . . Graphite Design metalwood shafts have been used by 22 winners this year on major tours – LPGA (8), PGA Tour (6), Tour (4), European Tour (3) and Champions Tour (1). . . . At the Albertsons Boise Open, Luke List averaged a hefty 345.1 yards in official driving statistics. He used a Callaway Razr Fit driver (8.5 degree).
