The bromance will get an early start in 2013.
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy – who were paired multiple times during the FedEx Cup playoffs and seemed to genuinely enjoy playing together – have committed to the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, slated to start on Jan. 17.
Both played in the event in 2012, with McIlroy finishing second and Woods in third. Robert Rock won the event, playing with Woods in the final group on Sunday.
The Abu Dhabi tournament has been moved up one week in 2013, which could allow Woods and McIlroy to think about playing at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines the next week. Woods has had plenty of success at the Southern California track, winning seven times.
Woods didn’t rule out playing Torrey Pines but said he won’t map out a schedule until after the World Challenge.
“I’m going to sit down over my offseason and before the new year for sure and plan out everything and see how many events I’m going to play in and whether this year was a good amount, I can play more, I can play less, travel more, travel less and really get a good balance and really analyze what I need to do or what I want to do,” he said.
