LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Charlie Beljan will compete in the third round of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic after spending the night in a hospital. Beljan, who holds a three-stroke lead, is scheduled to tee off at 10:55 a.m. with Ryuji Imada and Harris English in Saturday’s final group.
After signing his scorecard Friday evening, Beljan was taken out of the scoring area in a stretcher before being loaded into an ambulance. He experienced elevated heart rate and shortness of breath throughout Friday’s round, and was trailed by medical professionals during the final nine holes of his 64 at Walt Disney World Resort’s Palm Course.
Beljan said he got about one hour of sleep last night as he underwent numerous tests at a nearby hospital. He was released this morning. He said the incident may have been a panic attack “that kind of spun out of control.”
“They released me (from the hospital) saying that they thought I was good enough maybe not to go play golf, but at least to leave the hospital,” said Beljan, who started the week at No. 139 on the money list. The top 125 at week’s end retain their playing privileges for next year. “I’m making the decision to come out here and play.
“(I’m) still not feeling that great, but, shoot, the position I’m in, it’s kind of hard not to show up.
