No. 33 Tennessee won the SeaBest Invitational at TPC Sawgrass on Tuesday, shooting 15-over 879 to finish four shots ahead of 26th-ranked Texas A&M. The Vols’ Rick Lamb won the individual title by six shots with a 5-under 211 at the Players Stadium Course, site of the annual Players Championship.
This was Lamb’s second consecutive collegiate victory. He closed the fall by winning the Gifford Intercollegiate. The SeaBest was the third victory of his college career. Lamb started the week at No. 71 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. He shot 70-65-76 at Sawgrass. Texas A&M’s Greg Yates finished second after firing 72-75-70.
The SeaBest also marked the collegiate debut of Tennessee’s Oliver Goss, a freshman from Australia. Goss is No. 17 in the R&A World Amateur Ranking and was a quarterfinalist at last year’s U.S. Amateur. Goss shot 77-71-78 to place 16th at TPC Sawgrass. Jay Vandeventer was the Vols’ second-best finisher, at 6-over 222, to tie for sixth.
