It has been a busy three weeks as the team and I are officially on spring break now.
Last week we played in the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., which is a tournament we love playing every year. It was nice because we could finally wear some shorts and be in warm weather.
We had a very solid week as everyone played solid and we were able to win by 10 strokes. Cory Whitsett continued his great play by finishing seventh and Bobby Wyatt also had another solid week finishing tied for third.
As for myself, I finally brought it all together to get an individual victory by three shots shooting rounds of 67-70-70. It’d been a while since I was in contention and had played well, so it was nice to get back in the winners circle. It goes to show just one week after my worst college finish ever (T-39), I was able to get a win. It just reassures that I was close to playing well and golf is a crazy game.
This past weekend we played in the Linger Longer invitational at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga. The weather this tournament was not quite as consistent, as it was very cold and rainy the first day. Due to weather, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes.
We were able to get another team victory led by Cory Whitsett, who won the individual title for the third straight year. Something about that course fits him very well. Congrats to Cory on another college victory and to the continuance of his great play. It is great to see his game come together and be in contention week in and week out.
Bobby Wyatt had another solid week finishing T-5 and Trey Mullinax also had a very solid week with a 1-under total for two days finishing T-10.
I played very well both rounds, but a bulky putter kept me from giving Cory a run for his title. I shot rounds of 71-72 and finished in a tie for 10th. It was a struggle to not make many putts, but very positive to get a top 10 with putting so poorly.
Our three-week run of tournaments has come to an end, as we finished it in style winning our last 2 tournaments. I am extremely encouraged with how everybody is playing on our team and love this time of year. We are getting to crunch time and closer to the postseason as we try to win conference and national championships.
Our next tournament is at Texas A&M in a few weeks, as we are all able to enjoy spring break this upcoming week.
I am on the way to San Diego, Calif., to meet my parents. They are flying out and meeting me there as we have a close family friend who we will play golf with and just have a great week of relaxing and spending time with my family, which is much-needed being an only child.
I will also be going to Oceanside to TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) to be fitted for new clubs and get my specs, as well as go to the Scotty Cameron putter studio. I am very excited, as I haven’t been out there in a while. It’s going to be a great week.
Thanks everybody for reading, and Roll Tide!
