Todd Baek shot 65 Monday at The Club at Comanche Trace in Kerrville, Texas, to qualify for the Valero Texas Open. Four players shot 66, with Mathias Gronberg, Conrad Shindler and Zack Fischer grabbing the final three spots in a playoff. Cole Howard also shot 66, but was the odd man out in the playoff.
Baek also Monday qualified for the Web.com Tour’s Louisiana Open two weeks earlier. He finished 52nd. Baek played college golf at San Diego State before turning pro in the middle of the 2011-12 season, his sophomore year with the Aztecs.
Gronberg is a 43-year-old from Sweden who’s won on both the Web.com and European tours; he’s played in 195 PGA Tour events, with two third-place finishes to his credit. Both Schindler and Fischer played college golf in Texas. Schindler was a member of the Texas A&M team that won the 2009 NCAA Championship, while Fischer played at Texas-Arlington.
