During the next two weeks, we’ll update you on all 111 local qualifiers around the United States as we see who will advance to sectional qualifying. The 2013 U.S. Open will take place June 13-16 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.

Andy Aduddell, who played in the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital Classic Pro-Am with long-time friend Chad Campbell. Aduddell is a 37-year-old amateur who flys in the Air Force. He also had to win a playoff, four-for-five spots.

He last played in the Volvo China Open where he missed the cut. Christopher Ross, Jong Yoon and Patrick Sweeny all shot 70 and had to win a playoff to advance. Phil Eich and Josh Pisarri are first and second alternates.

Berkmeyer and Weldon won a two-for-one playoff against amateur Todd Mitchell.

In a four spot qualifier and only one alternate spot, it was Zachary Coats and Erick Justesen that shared medalist honors at Creekmoor. Coats is a freshman at Arkansas. Tyler Shelton is a multiple time Missouri Amateur. He won in a playoff along with Chris Thompson with even-par 72s. Brad Nurski, a mid-amateur from Missouri, is the 2011 Missouri Mid-Amateur Champion.

Andrew Jensen, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, plays on PGA Tour Canada. Chris Hemmerich, a University of Guelph senior, also advanced in a playoff. Hemmerich is on the 2013 National Amateur Golf Team.

Matthews and Williams tied for medalist honors with 4-over 76. Matthews is a freshman at Temple University. Williams added: “I never thought 76 would make it, let alone be medalists.” Seebold is a high school senior at Danville High School. He qualified with a 5-over 77.

Several qualifying spots were not determined before play was suspended due to darkness. One notable who won’t advance is former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz, who shot a 4-over 76. Smoltz started birdie-triple bogey, eagled the 9th to make the turn at 2 over, then bogeyed the 12th through 14th to take himself out of the running; a birdie at the 16th enabled him to finish T-30.

Garrett Jones was the only player to break par in earning a section spot on Tuesday at Erin Hills. Jones opened his round with six consecutive pars, posted birdie at the par-5 7th, gave it back with a bogey at No. 13, but birdies at Nos. 14 and 16 put him back out front. Four of the five qualifiers are from Wisconsin. The most exciting part of the round was the battle for the final two spots, as seven players posted 1-over 73s. Mike Sorenson and Daniel Zimmerman would earn the final two spots, while Kelly Kretz and James DeBoer will have to wait to see if someone drops out before the sectionals. Erin Hills proved to be difficult, as 30 players posted 80 or worse on Tuesday.

Lyon Lazare shot 3-under 69 to share medalist honors with Alex Coe. Lazare is a senior at Chapman University in Orange, Calif., a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Coe aced the par-3 seventh and eagled the par-5 13th at Bermuda Dunes. Among the notables who failed to advance is 62-year-old Mac O’Grady, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour who is most known for attending PGA Tour Q-School 17 times before earning his card. He finished T-9 at the 1987 U.S. Open.

He also has chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, which is a nervous-system disorder. Also qualifying is Oklahoma State freshman Wyndham Clark. Colorado State sophomore Cameron Harrell was first alternate.

Eric Meierdierks, who has made just 2-of-10 cuts on the PGA Tour this season, is the second alternate. Among those who failed to qualify are Ted Purdy, who has made the cut in all four majors, including twice at the U.S. Open; New Mexico senior James Erkenbeck; and seven current University of Arizona players, including Dylan Kornberg, Trent Redfern and Dylan Healey, who all finished in the top 15.
