The final round of the Lupton will be a duel between two of the nation’s top senior amateurs: Paul Simson and Doug Hanzel.
The Lupton Memorial uses the stableford scoring system, which rewards golfers based on positive results. A double bogey results in zero points, a bogey equals one, par is two, birdie gets three and eagle is worth four points.
Simpson, the current U.S. Senior Amateur champion, has a two-round total of 71 points to keep him one point ahead of Hanzel, who posted a total of 70 points for two rounds.
Hanzel, the 2012 Lupton Memorial champion, started the day T-7. His second-round total of 39 points was the day’s best round and moved him into sole possession of second place.
In the super senior division, Don Kuehn’s two round total of 68 gives him a 5 point lead over Dick Van Leuvan.
