Retief Goosen has withdrawn from the 2013 U.S. Open Championship with a back injury. The U.S. Golf Association announced Goosen’s withdrawal Thursday. He was fully exempt into the event.
Goosen’s spot in the U.S. Open will now be added to those available in the 11 sectional qualifiers that will take place across the country on June 3.
This back injury also caused Goosen to withdraw from the Wells Fargo and The Players Championship earlier this year. Goosen won the U.S. Open in 2001 and ’04.
