Sam Snead’s trophy from his 1954 Masters victory is among 14 items from the Sam Snead Collection that will be offered up for action next month in July, according to a story by The Associated Press.
“We consider it the most significant golf collection that’s ever been offered,” Chris Ivy, director of sports at Heritage Auctions, told AP.
The items, which also include Snead’s Wanamaker Trophy from the 1951 PGA Championship and the putter he used in the 1954 Masters, are currently on display in other places, including the Greenbrier Resort and Sam Snead’s Tavern restaurants.
The first auction will be Aug. 1-2 at the Muvico Theater in Rosemont, Ill. Two other auctions are scheduled for the fall and next spring. The online auction started on Wednesday. Ivy estimates the items to generate several million dollars and the earnings will likely be for charity.
