Why he’s dangerous: Niebrugge is on fire this summer. There’s no question about it. His summer started off with a victory at the Wisconsin Match Play Championship and then really got it rolling. Niebrugge won three tournaments in as many weeks, starting with the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, then the Wisconsin State Amateur and finally the Western Amateur.
“You go into every tournament imaging your going to win,” Niebrugge said after his victory at the Western Amateur. “Then to actually do it these last weeks is pretty unbelievable. It feels really good to say the least.”
He gets off to fast starts during most of his matches and that’s what needs happen at the U.S. Amateur as long as he can get through the two rounds of stroke play at The Country Club and Charles River Country Club.
Because of Niebrugge’s summer, he has placed himself atop the Walker Cup watch list heading into the final amateur tournament of the summer.
