Why he’s dangerous: Weaver has one of the best tee to green games in amateur golf. Over the last few tournaments, the 2012 U.S. Amateur runner-up has rounded his putting into form, which can easily allow him to contend at The Country Club.
“My putting has helped me out quite a bit,” he added.
His summer started by representing the United States at the Palmer Cup, where he finished with a 2-2 record.
“I never been in a situation like that before, representing my country. It was a lot of fun,” Weaver said. “It was just a glimpse of what it (playing on the Walker Cup Team) would feel like.”
His end goal is to make the Walker Cup Team and will have this last amateur tournament to make an impression on USA Captain Jim Holtgrieve. Although, he doesn’t want to add any extra pressure on himself thinking about where he has to finish to make the team.
“I’m just going to try to play my best and go as far as I can,” Weaver said.
After being so close last year, Weaver will bring a new found confidence into this year’s championship by knowing full well he has the game to win.
“Making the Walker Cup Team is my end goal, but I also would like to win the U.S. Am.”
