Stricker leads Tour in season head-to-head record

Rarely do you hear anyone talk about a player’s head-to-head won-loss-tie record. With the PGA Tour’s version of playoffs beginning today, let’s take a look at those head-to-head records, which mean so much in other sports.

The best winning percentage this year on the PGA Tour belongs to Steve Stricker, who recorded a 907-14-23 head-to-head record for an .858 winning percentage. A total of 14 players qualified for the playoffs with a record below .500. The worst winning percentage in that group belongs to Derek Ernst, who finished 19 PGA Tour events with a record of 892-1,680-114. That amounts to a .353 winning percentage. However, a victory at the Wells Fargo Championship trumps what might otherwise have been a down year. Ernst made the cut in seven of 19 PGA Tour starts.

The season-long winning percentages listed below were calculated based on a player’s won-loss-tie record in each PGA Tour event played (for example, Jason Dufner’s head-to-head record at the PGA Championship was 152-0 as 153 total players finished the event).
