After Kevin McPherson’s departure from GRU Augusta’s men’s golf program to take a similar position at Coastal Carolina, director of athletics Clint Bryant named Kory Thompson as the interim men’s coach Tuesday.
Thompson, who has led the GRU Augusta women’s team for the past three years, named former Augusta State All-American Henrik Norlander as the interim men’s and women’s assistant coach.
Norlander, who earned his 2013 PGA Tour card through 2012 Q-School, will travel with the teams for the rest of the fall season.
“I’m very confident in the ability of Kory leading both programs in this limited time,” Bryant said in a release. “She’s proven her ability to manage her program and coach at the highest level. We’re really excited about Henrik returning to the university to provide a service for our student-athletes. Henrik is an outstanding example of what a collegiate student-athlete should be about, both in the classroom and on the course, and now his professional career. I’m sure our teams will gain from this experience and knowledge.”
The Jaguars are set to play in the Brickyard Collegiate Championship in Macon, Ga., Friday through Sunday.
