With the likes of No. 4 Georgia Tech trying to chase them down, Mercer – in its home event – held off the Yellow Jackets to win the Brickyard Collegiate Championship on Sunday. The team shot a final round 7-under 281 for a two-shot victory at Riverside Golf Course in Macon, Ga.
Virginia Tech finished in third at 15-under 849, 10 shots behind second-place Georgia Tech. No. 3 in the Golfweek/ Sagarin College Rankings, Georgia shot 11 under to place fourth and South Florida rounded out the top five at 4 under.
Mercer was lead by senior Hans Reimers and freshman Emmanuel Kountakis, who tied for first with Georgia Tech senior Seth Reeves. Reimers shot rounds of 73-65-69, Kountakis shot 68-69-70 and Reeves shot 70-68-69 for 9-under 207 totals.
Reeves picked up his second win of the season. While both Reimers and Kountakis both picked up their first collegiate victories.
Georgia Tech junior Ollie Schniederjans, who was leading after the second round, finished tied for fourth after an even-par in the final round at 8-under 208.
Virginia Tech’s Scott Vincent also tied for fourth. The junior was coming off a two-tournament winning streak.
