The offseason has been great so far! We have had two workouts and they were both intense! My body is sore, but working out and eating healthy are significant to the rest of my career. Usually I take a break right now from golf for a couple months, however our first tournament is in February. Therefore, right now I am just working on my putting. My putting style has always been unique. At the beginning of last summer, I worked on my path, but this winter I am training to square my body up and to keep my head stable. I am making the effort this offseason to go to the course everyday and do my putting drills. When I go home for Christmas break I will take lessons with my coach, Todd Trimble, on my golf swing. The offseason for me is not just a time where I get to work on my game, but it is also I time where I get to catch up on all the other sports here and catch up on my social life while taking a mental and physical break from golf.
Fall break was my first weekend of no golf. I went home with a friend and we had a blast! The amount of sports that we played in just a few days was unreal. Going to my friend’s house was really enjoyable because it’s in in a small, country town somewhat like my home in Kentucky. It was nice to be in a small town, country environment for fall break because it made me feel like I was home. I have not been home since the summer, so going to my friend’s house was just what I needed.
This past weekend was great! The Alabama Crimson Tide beat the LSU Tigers, 38-17, on the football field. The campus was rocking with College GameDay in town and more tailgates around campus than you can imagine. However, first I got to see a baseball scrimmage and a volleyball game. An aspect of being a college athlete that is really incredible is that you know people on every team. My roommate from last year was a volleyball player and because of her, I know most of the team now. Several of my friends are baseball players, and many of the football players I have grown to know as well. This past weekend was just a great sports weekend and the excitement of all the games was really fun.
This time of the year is always demanding for school. We just had fall break and we only have a few weeks before Thanksgiving break. After Thanksgiving, we have dead week, the next week finals, and then it is Christmas break! As a result, all of my teachers are trying to get a little more in before the end of the year. There are countless assignments due in the next couple weeks and for me to not stress out – time management is a key component to my life as a college athlete. Time management makes everything calmer. This year has gone by really quick, but the saying stays true, “Time flies when you are having fun.”
Roll Tide Y’all and God Bless
