Looking for an interesting read? How about the letter sent to Tiger Woods when he was just 13 – a part of the successful pitch in luring the future hall of famer to play collegiately at Stanford?
It’s proudly displayed at Nike headquarters, according to a recent report by Business Insider, which snapped a photo of the letter from then-Cardinal coach Wally Goodwin.
Amid Goodwin’s words, which appear to come from a typewriter: “I am looking for a few tough kids. Winners ! I want to have the university’s golf program results right up there with the many other sports.”
Amid all the hype created by Woods’ pursuit of Jack Nicklaus’ record for career major victories, it’s easy to forget his collegiate career. A two-time All-American at Stanford, Woods earned 10 college victories as a member of the Cardinal – including the Pac-10 Championship and NCAA Championship in 1996.
Woods was inducted into the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.
