On the road again for my very last season of college golf! It’s been a phenomenal ride and the idea of graduating in May is scary but I guess very exciting at the same time.
It was great getting back in the groove of traveling and competing with the team this week at the Arizona Intercollegiate.
This years’ event was a very fun one as it was held at a brand new golf resort. The conditions were absolutely perfect and I must say quite a change for me as I was coming back from France where the ball flew half the distance as it did here in Arizona. The course played harder than we thought it would, the pins were tucked in the corners and there were big slopes around the green.
The team did not have it’s A game on the first day and we all made costly mistakes. Fortunately we were able to learn from these and bounce back with a great final round, moving us to the top of the leaderboard.
I am proud of how the team battled, especially without a top collegiate player, Michael Kim. After reading all the press about how the team was going to handle the loss, I suspect everyone was ready and excited to show that the golden bears are still to fear. We have a bunch of extremely hard working golfers such as Pace Johnson, Shotaro Ban, Cameron Shaw, Keelan Kilpatrick and James Yoon that are ready to prove themselves out there in the collegiate world. With that said, I am very confident that this team still has a great chance for the national title.
We all leave Tucson with a big smile on our face and the trophy in our hands, ready for more to prove during this spring season.
As for Brandon Hagy, Michael Weaver and myself, we are now off to the Jones Cup and look forward to competing in one of the world’s best amateur event.
