We have played a lot of golf the past couple weeks, which means I’ve got plenty of school to get caught up on. Our Alabama team traveled to Puerto Rico for our first tournament of the spring and then got home and went to New Orleans for the next one. We only have a little bit of time before we leave again next Wednesday to South Carolina for the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. All of the traveling makes for tons of schoolwork we have to make up, but our academic staff here does a great job keeping us on track.
The trip to Puerto Rico was really fun, but I struggled, and so did our team. However, my teammate and roommate, Stephanie Meadow won the event. The weather was awesome, but I got a bad cold when I got down there and that part was not fun at all. Even though I played poorly, I learned things about my game that I needed to improve on mentally. After the tournament was over our coaches took us to the rain forest. It was very pretty and a great experience. We got back from Puerto Rico Wednesday night and left for New Orleans on Friday, so let’s just say it was a quick turn around.
The practice I got in on Thursday and Friday was just what I needed before we left. When we arrived in New Orleans, Mardi Gras had started and people were going crazy downtown. The parades were really cool and there were tons of people. One really cool thing about college golf is that we go to really cool places that I would not have gotten to experience otherwise. It is really amazing how many cool places we get to travel to for tournaments. The practice round went well and unfortunately the first round was cancelled due to weather. Therefore, Day 2 of the tournament we played 36 holes straight. It is actually a lot of fun playing non-stop. However, by the end of the day my feet were hurting. I started out really rough making a bogey and a double bogey. I was 3 over with 34 more holes to play. After that rough start I finally started playing like myself again. I shot 75 the first 18 and 69 the second 18. I was even par going into the final day. The last day I played well and shot even par and I ended up tied for 17th. My finish was much better than Puerto Rico. All I can do is continue to practice, have fun, and play my best.
We travel next Wednesday to South Carolina. Last year it was a really fun tournament especially since Darius Rucker put on a concert for us before the first round. I just got home from a tournament, but I cannot wait to leave again. Spring semester flies by, but it is so much fun.
The rest of my life is great too right now. As for school goes it is hard keeping up with classes, but thankfully I have taught myself how to time manage and it has not been too bad so far. We have mid-terms coming up already. School has been going well though. My social life is always a lot of fun this time of year because many of my friends play spring sports. Therefore, we get to encourage each other to play well. I have friends on the tennis teams, baseball team, softball team, track and field, and all kinds of friends that play sports so it is a lot of fun keeping up with them. When I have time I get to go watch them which is a lot of fun seeing them play their sport because growing up I never had friends that played at a D1 level. The atmosphere at Alabama is surreal and I am blessed to be a part of this school for sure.
Wish us luck at our next tournament!
