San Diego State and USC are the highest-ranked teams in the field for this week’s Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic at Nos. 36 and 23, respectively. But after Monday’s first two rounds, it’s the Aztecs who hold the two-shot lead over the Trojans.
The Aztecs shot 6-under 570 at San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif., while the Trojans shot 572. The teams are the only two under par entering Tuesday’s final round, but Michigan (1 over), Wake Forest (2 over) and San Diego (4 over) are all within 10 shots of the lead.
San Diego State’s Xander Schauffele leads individually at 6-under 138, two shots better than San Diego’s Taylor Schmidt and USC’s Rico Hoey, who is continuing to play well in his freshman season with the Trojans.
