Talk about bouncing back. After finishing eighth at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters for its worst finish since the 2011 NCAA Championship, California shot 20-under 268 in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament.

Its first-round 268 was 46 shots better than the team’s first-round 314 at Southern Highlands Golf Club.

The Bears were lead by senior Brandy Hagy (64) and have a 13-shot lead over Arizona. Michael Weaver (67), Joel Stalter (68) and Keelan Kilpatrick (69) also sit in the top 10 on the leaderboard.

Oklahoma State, No. 2 in the Golfweek rankings, are in third after a 6-under 282. UNLV, who won the prestigious Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters, and San Diego State are tied for fourth at 4 under.

Hagy, No. 4 in the Golfweek rankings, leads after nine birdies and one bogey on the card at Tucson (Ariz.) National. He leads teammate, Weaver, by three shots.
