Hunter Mahan (back) withdraws from Bay Hill

Hunter Mahan withdrew Sunday from the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando, Fla., citing a back injury.

Mahan had bogeyed his first hole, then hit his tee shot at the second hole when he determined he could not continue; he headed to a fitness trailer. Mahan was 4 over and near the back of the field when he withdrew.

Apparently Mahan also felt some soreness in his back at the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral (Fla.), where he finished T-9. Mahan said he expects to play in the Shell Houston Open in two weeks.
