Virginia, No. 13 in the Golfweek Rankings, shot 36-under 540 at the Jim West Intercollegiate in McKinney, Texas on Monday.
The Cavaliers shot 15 under in the first round and followed that up with a 21 under in the second round at TPC Craig Ranch. The team has four out of five players in the top 10.
Virginia freshman Derek Bard is tied for first with Houston Baptist’s Preston Stanley at 11-under 133. Bard had rounds of 68-65 and Stanley shot 67-66 on the par-72, 7,417-yard course.
Bard is looking to pick up his first collegiate win in seven starts. He already has four top-10 finishes.
Virginia’s Denny McCarthy sits in third one-shot back of Bard and Stanley.
The Cavaliers lead Iowa State by 13 shots as the Cyclones sit in second. Louisiana-Monroe shot 20 under and is in solo third. Sam Houston State is in fourth at 14 under, while Central Arkansas rounds out the top five, 28 shots back of Virginia.
